Stamp Duty & Registration Charges in Haryana (2026)
6 min read
Stamp duty is the state tax you pay to register a property in your name. In Haryana it is charged on the higher of the transaction value or the government collector (circle) rate, so always check the circle rate for the sector before you sign.
In urban areas such as Gurugram, stamp duty is typically around 7% for male buyers and 5% for female buyers, with joint (male + female) ownership usually falling in between. Registration charges are levied separately and are capped. Because rates and caps are revised from time to time, treat these as indicative and confirm the current figure with the sub-registrar or our stamp-duty tool before budgeting.
Registering a property in a woman’s name (solely or jointly) is the single easiest way to lower your stamp duty in Haryana — the concession is meaningful on a multi-crore builder floor.
Budget for the full acquisition cost, not just the sticker price: stamp duty and registration, brokerage if any, GST (on under-construction only — ready resale floors do not attract GST), legal/documentation fees, and society transfer charges where applicable.
The buyer is responsible for paying stamp duty, and it must be paid before or at the time of registration. Under-payment can invalidate the instrument, so never under-declare the value to save duty — the registrar can refuse registration and levy penalties.
